Another Igorot legend wins gold in SEA Games 2019

Cordillera’s Crisamuel Delfin and Palaro vet Mary Allin Aldeguer, combined poise and aggression in their respective routines en route to winning 2 gold medals in the anyo (form) non-traditional arnis competition.

Clad in an Igorot warrior costume, Delfin wielded a pair of traditional swords while swishing his way to collect an average of 9.87 points. This merited him a mint in the eyes of international arnis judges.

“Talagang pinaghandaan namin para makamit natin ‘yung ginto na gusto naming kunin,” the 25-year-old said.

Crisamuel Delfin and Mary Allin Aldeguer hiked the Filipinos’ gold medal tally in arnis to 14 on the last day of competitions at Angeles University Foundation in Pampanga.

Aldeguer, a pride of Rizal province and a veteran of several Palarong Pambansa competitions, managed to pull off the win despite hurting her ankle shortly before her performance.

“Nung una before ako um-entry, natapilok ako. Kaya nung pumasok ako hindi ko na inisip kung may masakit, laban kung laban. Nung nag-perform ako medyo nagkamali pero hindi ako nagpahalata nung second time na ginawa ko ‘yung move,” she said.

Arnis is the top source of gold medals for the Philippine delegation so far as the Filipino arnisadors won all but six of the 20 at stake in the three-day event.

The SEA Games has TRULY LIFTED THE SPIRIT, UNEXPOSED TALENT, SKILLS OF THE FILIPINO AND RAISED IT TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS TRULY WORTHY TO BE PROUD OF- SPECIALLY OUR BROTHERS FROM THE HINTERLANDS, MINORITY AND INDEGENOUS PEOPLE – FROM MINDORO, THE MANYANS, WHICH MANY LOCALS TEND TO LOOK DOWN UPON.
I HAVE VERY HIGH RESPECT TO IGOROTS AS THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE A LONG LINEAGE OF WARRIOR CULTURE- TEAM LAKAY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS FAME.

  1. Congratulations All Filipino athletes for bringing honor to our country. Kudos to all of you ! Pag totoo ang suporta ng gobierno sa ating mga atleta, ganado at pursigido silang ibigay ang pinaka the best nila. Todo ensayo to the extent of risking their lives. The best is yet to come! More power!

  2. Thank you for sharing this news of glory. But please, I ask you to revise and change “costume” to traditional wear. They don’t wear it for Halloween. It’s their culture.
